Benefits of Hot Yoga

The reason for its popularity is clear; stretching in high temperatures will allow you to push your body much further, working it from inside and out, meaning you can see the results. You can burn between 600 to 1000 calories per class!

The main benefits of Hot Yoga are:

  • Detoxification

  • Boosts immune systems

  • Weight loss and weight management

  • Improved fitness, mental strength and overall performance

  • Joint lubrication to alleviate stiffness and discomfort

Why Hot?

Hot yoga is the world’s fastest growing yoga trend with dedicated followers that include Madonna, Pippa Middleton, David Beckham, Daniel Craig, Demi Moore, and countless British Olympians who bend themselves into positions they never thought possible!

Hot yoga is a series of classic yoga poses performed in the detoxifying heat between 38 and 42 degrees.

By keeping the room temperature this high, participants are sweating out toxins in their body. The heat allows the body to stretch and compress more deeply, minimising the risk of injury. Your muscles will be warm therefore, you will be able to stretch further and much more safely than if you were practising in “normal” room temperature.

The heat increases your pulse rate and metabolism, allowing your blood vessels to become more flexible, this increases circulation and blood flow to the limbs.

By practising Hot Yoga, you engage your body in focused breath work and posture work, using heat to sweat out and detoxify impurities from the body. Participants leave the class feeling cleansed from the inside-out.

Benefits of the heat

Weight Loss - Your body burns fat more effectively; fat may be redistributed and burned as energy during the class. It is common to lose centimeters of shape in a very short time. Your metabolism speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids.

Boosts Immune System - By increasing your body’s core temperature this stimulates a fever-like environment in your body, alleviating white blood cell production and fighting viruses and bacteria. Your body will also produce additional interferon, which increases the production of antibodies.

Detoxification - Sweating promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin - which is the body's largest eliminating organ.

Increase Flexibility- Practising in the hot yoga room your muscles are much warmer so they become much more flexible. The heat allows the participant to progress deeper into poses which is an efficient way to increase flexibility.

Better Sleep- Lower stress levels allow for an easier sleep, which improves the immune system and reduces probabilities of injuries. Since your stress hormones are reduced you will burn food instead of storing it as fat, as your insulin sensitivity will increase.

Improved Overall Performance- Your nervous system function is greatly improved and messages are carried more efficiently to and from your brain. You also benefit from a strengthening of willpower, self control, concentration and determination in this challenging environment.

All of the above factors combine to create a satisfying feeling of achievement and increased well-being after each class.
